Sculptree volunteers

A massive team of 50 volunteers help to make Sculptree the friendliest and most exciting big carving event in the South West – come along and lend us a hand for a day (or two!)

We need help with a variety of tasks that place you right at the heart of the action and help Tree Aid to raise its profile and introduce more people to the beauty and versatility of trees.  Download a role description and application form or contact sarah.moore@treeaid.org.uk

Throughout the week we need volunteers to help with:

Face-painting

Come along and test your skills to paint African animals or tree inspired themes. We especially need face-painters over the weekend from Friday 27th – Monday 30th August.

The Gallery

Selling hand carved sculptures created by the big carvers. Each sculpture sold means a donation of 12.5% to Tree Aid, and the Gallery is a tranquil space that showcases the beauty of wood in sculptural form.  Introduce buyers to the sculptor of their piece, and help them understand how their purchase will change lives for families fighting poverty caused by deforestation in Africa’s dry-lands.

Tree Aid Marquee

Introduce visitors to Tree Aid’s work, have a seat on the sofa, munch some organic mango, and help visitors learn how Tree Aid supports some of Africa’s poorest families to become self reliant by unleashing the benefits of trees.

Offcuts

The big carvers get through almost 24 tonnes of wood in the space of their week carving. Some of the ‘offcuts’ are chunky, useful pieces that appeal to amateur carvers visiting Westonbirt and the Festival of the Tree. Haggle with them for the best donation you can – all proceeds transform lives for families in the Sahel.

Prize Draw

Help to sell tickets for the prize draw First prize is a beautiful hand carved sculpture donated by Peter Walwin, member of the very first Sculptree crew who started the event over 20 years ago!

Other prizes include a case of organic wine from Vintage Roots, a mixed veggie box from Abel & Cole, and a fair trade hamper from Divine Chocolate.

Bank Holiday Monday Auction

The busiest day of the Festival, the Auction takes place at 3pm. We need help registering bidders, setting up the private View, welcoming guests and providing refreshments, and congratulating the sculptors on their finished masterpieces – which have sold in the past for bids from £1000 – £10,000! Sculptors donate almost 50% of auction proceeds to Tree Aid – come and be a part of the generosity and excitement!

All volunteers get free entrance to the Festival of the Tree, and an hour for lunch. Expenses of up to £5 per day will be reimbursed.

Tree Aid will organise car sharing to help you get to and from Westonbirt Arboretum (from our offices in Bristol BS2 8PE)
