John’s 2010 Sculpture: Awakening
The Rebirth of Aphrodite. According to Greek mythology Aphrodite was born of the sea foam near Paphos Cyprus after Cronus (the leader of the first generation of Titans) cut off Ouranous genitals and threw them behind him into the sea, “ouch“!!!
The genitals were carried over the sea a long time, and white foam arose from the immortal flesh; with it a girl grew to become Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, beauty and sexuality.
Since antiquity, shells in particular the nautilus and the shell of a scallop have been associated with Aphrodite.
The Rebirth of Aphrodite is a representation of this Greek myth, I hope you find her intriguing, but be warned. !!! it was said Aphrodite could make any man fall in love with her at his first sight of her!!!
